Make your own furniture by combining kitchen cabinets in different ways. This can be a weekend DIY project and can add immensely to your house’s resale value. All you need are some basic tools and lots of imagination, use some time to plan this project before hand and find some nice cabinets, The cabinets could be special ordered, custom made, off the shelf, used from the salvage store, or used cabinets from a recent kitchen renovation.
I am typing this on my desk made out of a kitchen base cabinets with drawers and a flush door on top of it with the other end mounted to the wall. I have seen some nice desks built with antique panel doors with a sheet of glass on top of them.
Maybe you need an entertainment center, this could be accomplished with a row of wall cabinets on the floor and then the second row could be a cabinet at each end. Finished with a row of cabinets on top with crown molding. These cabinets will all be mounted to the wall like a kitchen, and also screwed to each other at the sides that touch another cabinet.
How about a book case? Use kitchen base cabinets with a nice wooden top, or even marble. Then set a row of wall cabinets right on top of the counter top. For these upper cabinets you can order cabinets with out doors, or just remove the doors and patch the screw holes. If you need a taller unit use another row of cabinets.
I have always found a great use for used cabinets is in the garage. Put a row of base cabinets with a recycled counter top, and hang wall cabinets above them. This will give you a nice work area and a great place to store all those small things in the garage.
